- The Overall Turnover Index in Retail Trade in May 2026 increased by 10.1% (y-o-y) and 5.3% (m-o-m). The Overall Volume Index in Retail Trade decrease by 6.8% (y-o-y) and 5.7% (m-o-m).

- In June 2026, the weighted average interest rate on new deposits
remained unchanged at 0.36%, while the corresponding rate on new loans remained unchanged at 4.65%. The interest rate spread between new deposits and loans decreased at 4.29 percentage points.

- Data released by Eurostat showed that the annual inflation in Greece is expected to be 2.7% in July 2026 from 3.9% in June 2026(m-o-m), and 3.7% in July 2025(y-o-y).

- The Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence has unveiled the new national space programme, HELLAS-SPACE 2.0, with a total budget of EUR 350 mn, aimed at strengthening the country’s space capabilities and satellite ecosystem. According to the ministry, HELLAS-SPACE 2.0 will serve as a key pillar of Greece’s national space strategy, supporting the development of space infrastructure, the use of satellite applications and data, the growth of the domestic space industry, research and innovation, and the development of a highly skilled workforce.

- Two firefighting helicopters collided yesterday in Greece while attempting to contain a major wildfire that has destroyed more than 100 homes northwest of Athens. The country continues to battle devastating wildfires, with fires still burning in the Athens region and on the island of Crete, according to the latest reports.

- NBG’s profit after tax in 2Q26 stood at EUR 317mn (-7.7%, q-o-q). While profit after tax in 1H26 stood at EUR 661 mn (-5,8% y-o-y). The Bank’s NPE ratio remained stable at 2.4%, and NPE coverage ratio stood at 105%. CAD and CET1 ratio (pro forma) stood at 21.0% and 17.3%.
The Bank’s CEO, Pavlos Mylonas, noted that the Greek economy maintained its positive momentum in the first half of 2026, continuing to outperform the euro area despite renewed geopolitical uncertainty. Looking ahead, he stated that the Bank remains firmly focused on executing its strategic priorities and creating sustainable value for shareholders, customers, and employees. He added that continued investments in technology and human capital, together with the successful completion of the rollout of the Bank’s new core banking system, one of the most advanced banking platforms in Europe, further strengthen its operational resilience, scalability, and innovation capabilities.

- Preliminary data released by CyStat showed that the General Government fiscal balance for the period of January- June 2026 presented a surplus of EUR 420.3 mn (1.1% of GDP) compared to a surplus of EUR 416.8mn (1.1% of GDP) in the same period of 2025. Primary balance recorded a surplus of EUR 683.7mn versus a surplus of EUR 667.8mn in the corresponding period of 2025. During Jan- June 2026 total expenditure increased by EUR 286.8 mn (+4.3%) to EUR 6,980.0mn from EUR 6,693.2mn in the corresponding period of 2025. Total revenue increased by EUR 290.3mn (+4.1%) to EUR 7,400.3 mn compared to EUR 7,110 mn in the same period of 2025. Particularly, in June 2026 the General government fiscal balance presented a deficit of EUR 133.6mn (Primary balance deficit EUR 94.5mn).
