GREECE

Macro Political:

• Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on Turkey to revoke its long-standing casus belli (reason for war) against Greece, describing it as incompatible with Turkey’s aspirations to join European defence initiatives. He emphasized that Turkey cannot seek access to EU defence financial tools while simultaneously threatening an EU member state over its legal rights. Mitsotakis noted that any Turkish involvement in European defence must consider the legitimate concerns of both Greece and Cyprus. He also mentioned his intention to raise the issue directly with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, highlighting their ongoing communication and the possibility of a meeting in the coming months.
