Macro/Political:

  • According to Naftemporiki, the total issuance of public debt in 2026 will be limited and is not expected to exceed EUR 8 billion. The source notes that the PDMA is expected to carry out two bond issuances, raising approximately EUR 6–7 billion within the first four months of the years and the remaining amount from auction re-openings. In addition, the PDMA is also expected to proceed with new early debt repayments of around EUR 5 billion by the end of 2026. By following this strategy, the PDMA aims to maintain public debt at around EUR 359 billion, or 137.6% of GDP.

  • Piraeus Bank announced voluntary cash tender offers in respect of its EUR 600 mn AT-1 callable in June 2026 (ISIN: XS2354777265) at a purchase price 103.7% of the principal amount of the notes.

  • Metlen will receive EUR 22.5 mn from the Ministry of Development and Investment this year for the implementation of the investment plan “Capacity Expansion of the Industrial Complex for Specialized Metal Construction in Volos.” The grant was approved by the Minister of Development and Investment, Mr. Takis Theodorakis, with EUR 18 mn provided as a subsidy and EUR 4.5 mn in the form of a tax exemption.

CYPRUS

Macro/Political:

  • The European Commission expressed its expectation for a strong commitment to the rapid implementation of the Great Sea Interconnector between Cyprus and Greece, following the latest developments and positions of Nicosia and Athens. More specifically, the European Commission stated that any delay in the project’s implementation would be detrimental to the two countries involved. Furthermore, it commented that the project is of the highest strategic importance to the EU and is crucial for ending Cyprus’s energy isolation.
