- In July 2026, the current account surplus declined significantly and stood at EUR 218.5mn despite the improvements recorded in the combined goods and services balances. In January-July 2026, the current account deficit increased by EUR 1.5 bn and stood at EUR 9.3bn, however the combined goods and services balance improved.

- Former lawmaker for the Golden Dawn party Ilias Kasidiaris, who was released from prison last week, announced his support for a new far-right party called the Alliance of Greeks. In a short video posted on his YouTube channel, Kasidiaris said that the party had been established in 2025 and claimed that it cannot be barred from participating in elections. The new party is linked to three independent lawmakers who were elected with the far-right Spartans party in 2023: Giannis Dimitrokallis, Giorgos Manousos and Dionysis Valtogiannis. Finally, Kasidiaris said that “Whether I will be a parliamentary candidate on a party’s list, an independent candidate in an electoral district, or whether I will choose another way to run in the national elections, you will find out when the candidacies are submitted to the Supreme Court’s A1 section.”

- Minister of Defence Nikos Dendias travelled to Cairo yesterday to attend a trilateral meeting with his Egyptian and Cypriot counterparts, scheduled for today. According to an announcement from the Ministry of Defence, the talks will focus on further strengthening cooperation among the three countries’ armed forces, including joint military exercises, training, operational interoperability, and collaboration on new technologies and defence innovation. The ministers are also expected to discuss security challenges in the region.

- Greece’s PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the headquarters of NVIDIA and Sequoia Capital in California’s Silicon Valley yesterday, where he held meetings with senior company executives and technology researchers. At NVIDIA, Mitsotakis met John Josephakis, Global Vice President of Sales and Business Development for HPC/Supercomputing, and other senior company executives to discuss major investments in digital and computing infrastructure underway in Greece.
While at Sequoia Capital, the meeting was hosted by partners Konstantine Buhler and Doug Leone. It brought together leading investors, researchers from major technology companies and research laboratories, as well as founders and executives of companies at the forefront of AI applications in fields such as medicine, education, automation, and robotics.

- Metlen announced that is undertaking a new strategic investment of nearly EUR 25 mn in EP.AL.ME., part of the Metals Sector’s “Integrated Aluminium Value Chain”, with the aim of enhancing the use of recycled aluminium and further strengthening its role in the European aluminium industry.
