  • DBRS, in its commentary on Greek banks, noted that the country’s systemic banks maintained resilient performance in 1H25 and passed the EBA Stress Test with flying colours. This strong performance prompted an upward revision of the profitability target for 2025, primarily driven by stronger credit expansion and favourable asset quality trends. The robust capital position of Greek banks was reflected in their better than average performance compared to their European peers in the EBA 2025 stress test. Furthermore, the agency commented that higher loan growth, combined with benefits from interest rate hedging, lower deposit funding costs, and increased contributions from fixed income securities, helped mitigate the NII pressure from lower rates. This trend is expected to continue in 2H25. Net fee and trading income also rose significantly in 1H25, supported by heightened market volatility due to geopolitical tensions and the global trade war. As a result, operating efficiency remained strong.
