- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Athens on Tuesday for a visit that Greek officials view as a sign of US confidence in Greece’s role in the region. The trip comes at a time of tension in Greek-Turkish relations, which are not on the agenda but remain a factor, particularly because Rubio will not stop in Ankara during this tour. Rubio is scheduled to begin talks with Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis. The two are expected to hold discussions, make a joint statement and launch consultations connected to the sixth round of the US-Greece Strategic Dialogue. Furthermore, Rubio is scheduled to meet Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion and give a speech at Pnyx – the rocky hill just west of the Acropolis, where the Ecclesia, the assembly of ancient Athenian citizens, met to debate.
