Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis stated that Cyprus is actively participating in the EU SAFE Programme, noting that Cyprus was among the first countries to apply for the use of this mechanism. He added that the European Commission has announced the allocation of EUR 1.18bn to Cyprus. According to Mr. Letympiotis, this is a significant amount given the size of the country, which demonstrates the EU’s trust in Cyprus and highlights the opportunity to maximize the use of European instruments to strengthen its defence. Today, the President of the European Council, Mr. Antonio Costa, arrived in Cyprus for his scheduled meeting with Cyprus’ President, Nicos Christodoulides.
