Central Bank of Cyprus Forecasts 2.5% Economic Growth in 2026

Macro/Political:

  • On June 24th Greece will auction 26 Weeks T-Bills with maturity December 28, 2026. The amount to be auctioned is EUR 400mn.

  • In April 2026, the current account deficit decreased by EUR 956 mn (y-o-y) and stood at EUR 1.4bn mainly due to improvements in the balance of goods and the secondary income account and to a lesser extent, the primary income account, which was partly offset by a slight deterioration in the services balances. In January-April 2026, the current account deficit increased, due to a deterioration in the secondary and primary income accounts, which was partly offset in the goods and services balances.

  • The Overall Turnover Index in Industry (both Domestic and Non-Domestic Market) in April 2026 recorded an increase of 23% (y-o-y) and 2.1% (m-o-m).

CYPRUS

Macro/Political:

  • In its macroeconomic forecast –June 2026, the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) projects that the Cypriot economy will grow by 2.5% this year (-0.2pp from previous forecast in March 2026). For 2027 and 2028 the CBC expects Cyprus’ GDP to increase by 2.9% (-0.1pp) and 3.1% respectively. Unemployment rate is expected to increase to 4.6% in 2026 (from 4.4% in 2025), decrease 4.5% in 2027 and 2028. According to the CBC, inflation is expected to increase to 2.3% this year, decreased to 2.2% in 2027, and 1.9% in 2028.
