  • DBRS, in its baseline macroeconomic scenarios, expects Greece’s economic growth to be 1.8% in 2026(decrease by -0.1% from Jun 26) and 1.8% in 2027. It also projects that unemployment will stand at 8.3% (decrease by 0.1% from Jun 26) in 2026 and decreased to 7.8% in 2027.

  • In June 2026, the number of issued building permits in Greece amounted to 3,118 (21.5%, y-o-y). In the last twelve months from June 2025- June 2025, Total Building Activity (private public) in Greece recorded a 10.1% increase in the number of issued building permits compared to the corresponding period of 2024-2025.

Markets:

  • Moody’s Ratings affirmed Alpha Bank’s and Piraeus Bank’s long-term deposit and senior unsecured ratings at Baa1, as well as their BCA and Adjusted BCA at Baa3. However, the agency changed the outlook on the banks’ long-term deposit ratings to Positive from Stable. The rating action follows the agency’s recent change in the outlook on the Government of Greece.

  • Democratic Rally (DISY) leader and President of the Parliament Annita Demetriou has officially stated for the first time that she wants to be the party’s candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, one day after former leader Averof Neophytou announced his own candidacy. Demetriou announced her interest in statements to the media following a meeting of the party leadership, putting herself forward to DISY members for the nomination.
    Earlier, commenting on Neophytou’s candidacy, she said that he had the right to take whatever position he wished, but the party was obliged to follow its procedures and its charter.

  • Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos, following a meeting at the Presidential Palace between the President and the country’s largest trade unions, stated that the Ministry will submit to the Council of Ministers a package of support measures to assist citizens in dealing with the latest increase in inflation. Asked whether the measures would be horizontal, the Minister said that his aim is for the measures to be targeted and focused on the issue. However, in some cases, the measures may have horizontal characteristics, as some issues affect everyone in the same way.

  • Bank of Cyprus introduced transactions directly in Indian Rupees for businesses and individuals, as the bank seeks to expand payment links and strengthen its presence in India. Meanwhile, as part of its broader efforts to expand its presence in the Indian market, BoC is in the process of obtaining the required approval from the Reserve Bank of India for the establishment of a Representative Office in India.
