CYPRUS
Macro/Political
- Speaking at the OEB (Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation) annual general meeting, President Christodoulides outlined a strategy to transform Cyprus into an active investment hub, stressing the need for targeted international outreach and further reforms. Upcoming business missions include a visit to India in three weeks, Kazakhstan in early June, and planned engagements in Florida, Ohio and New York. The president framed these efforts within a broader vision of Cyprus acting as a bridge between the EU, the Middle East, India and the Gulf. On the economic front, Mr. Christodoulides pointed to a budget surplus of 2.6%, public debt reduced to 55% of GDP, and GDP growth of 3.8% in 2025, among the highest in the eurozone, alongside Cyprus reaching investment grade “A” for the first time since 2011. On the reform agenda, he noted 75 new digital services introduced in 2025 with over 100 more planned for 2026, and flagged pension reform as the next major step. On energy, he acknowledged delays but called for faster progress toward a competitive electricity market and greater use of renewables.
