CYPRUS

Macro/Political:

  • In statements to StockWatch, Labour Minister Marinos Moushiouttas said that the government will not make any changes to its subsidy plan for the hotel sector, which provides coverage of 30% of employees’ wages for only one month for hotels that are already operating or will begin operating, provided that employees return to their positions. The hotel sector has been requesting changes to the government plan amid fears that the consequences of the war could extend to the tourism sector during April and May.
The Director General of the Cyprus Hotel Association, Mr. Christos Angelides, told StockWatch that bookings and cancellations currently appear to be relatively balanced for the summer months. There is a flow of bookings, but also some cancellations. For April, he noted that there has been a moderate decrease in cancellations, while new bookings are also beginning to be recorded, however, this is not to an extent that would significantly change the current situation.
