Christodoulides Expected to Announce Targeted Economic Measures Today

  • The Greek PDMA announced that during the 26W T-Bills auction of EUR 400mn which took place yesterday, the total bids reached EUR mn and the amount finally accepted was EUR 500mn at a uniform yield of 2.16% (vs 1.84% in the previous 26W T-Bills auction in February 2026).

  • The ministry cabinet will convene today amid a heavy political climate, focusing on a proposed increase to the minimum wage that would raise the monthly total to more than EUR 900, as well as on foreign policy developments.
    Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis will brief ministers on international developments and war-related risks affecting the economy. Meanwhile, Labour Minister Niki Kerameus will present the wage proposal, which forms part of the government’s broader plan to raise the minimum monthly salary to EUR 950 by 2027.

  • According to Naftemporiki, former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is accelerating his initiatives so that the movement aimed at establishing a new democratic political formation takes concrete shape by the end of May.
    Sources close to him say that by then the policy framework for the convergence of forces from social democracy, political ecology, and the radical democratic left will be made public. The framework is being prepared by a team led by Giorgos Siakantaris.

  • President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides is expected to announce today a package of targeted economic measures aimed at helping the public cope with the impact of the ongoing war in Iran. Speaking after the March 25 national holiday parade, Christodoulides said the new support measures are possible due to the government’s responsible fiscal policy. He noted that the measures already in place exceed EUR 100 mn, adding that the country’s current financial stability allows for further intervention that would have been impossible during the 2012–2013 financial crisis.

  • President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said the government has opened discussions with Britain over the future of its military bases on the island, following a drone attack earlier this month that raised concerns the installations could expose Cyprus to a wider conflict with Iran. Christodoulides added that the government has “a clear plan” on how to proceed step by step, noting that London has been informed.
