Macro/Political:

  • The Greek government is finalizing the details of a EUR 1.5 bn relief and support package to be presented next week by the Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki International fair, where by tradition, each serving PM announces the government’s policies for the year ahead.

  • The Overall Turnover Index in Retail Trade in June 2025 increased by 3% (y-o-y) and 7.1% (m-o-m). The Overall Volume Index in Retail Trade increased by 1.8% (y-o-y) and 6.2% (m-o-m).

  • Intralot’s revenues reached EUR 168 million, marking an increase of 1.7%(y-o-y). EBITDA stood at EUR 60.2 million, increased by 1.2%(y-o-y)

Macro/Political:

  • Preliminary data released by CyStat showed that the General Government fiscal balance for the period of January- July 2025 presented a surplus of EUR 840.6mn (2.4% of GDP) compared to a surplus of EUR 911.7mn (2.7% of GDP) in the same period of 2024. Primary balance recorded a surplus of EUR 1,124.1mn versus a surplus of EUR 1,193.5mn in the corresponding period of 2024. During Jan- July 2025 total expenditure increased by EUR 323mn (+5.5%) to EUR 6,180.5mn from EUR 5,857.4mn in the corresponding period of 2024. Total revenue increased by EUR 613mn (+9.3%) to EUR 7,173.9mn compared to EUR 6,561.2 mn in the same period of 2024. Particularly, in July 2025 the General government fiscal balance presented a surplus of EUR 438.5mn (Primary balance surplus at EUR 408.9mn).

  • Trade union organizations blame the government for the ongoing labor crisis, warning that the situation is heading toward escalation as unions decide today on the form of strike measures to be announced. Union leaders criticized President Christodoulides, accusing him of “failing to honor his commitments to the trade unions.” Instead, they stressed that “he aligns himself with the positions of the employers’ organizations.
