GREECE

Macro/Political:

  • Bank of Greece Governor Yiannis Stournaras stated that Greece is beginning to close the investment gap it previously had compared to the rest of Europe. This year, investments are projected to reach approximately 16% of GDP, up from 11% in 2019. However, he also emphasized that strengthening innovation is essential, as improving productivity is a key priority. Currently, Greece’s median productivity per hour stands at only 56.2% of the European average. This issue stems from the effects of the previous financial crisis, which created a significant investment gap and led to the loss of a substantial portion of the country’s productive age labour force.
